Fly Fishing Gear & Equipment at Elktrout Lodge in Kremmling, Colorado (CO) Rods and Reels
We recommend #4 to #6 weight outfits for the bulk of our fishing. Most of the fish are healthy, muscular fish in the 16 to 25 inch range and can take you into your backing on occasion. When the Colorado and Blue Rivers are running full, these rods let you land a fish without overplaying. The new large arbor reels like the Battenkill are especially helpful at keeping up with larger quarry.

You may also want to bring a #3 weight for fishing Troublesome Creek. This smaller stream is well suited to smaller and lighter tackle, although fish can run up to 20 inches or more.

Fly Fishing Gear & Equipment at Elktrout Lodge in Kremmling, Colorado (CO)Fly Line
Most of the time we fish floating lines. You may want to bring a sink tip for stripping streamers in the deeper runs.

Waders
Chest waders with felt soles and a wading belt will cover all wading situations. Breathables are especially comfortable during hot days, and when layered properly, are great in cold weather as well.

Clothing
Rocky Mountain weather is known for its unpredictability. Layering is the best way to go since the weather may go from sunny to rainy to snowing and back again within an hour. Extra boot socks and long underwear or fleece pants will keep the chill out when float tubing or wading in cold water. All fly fishers should wear hats and polarized sunglasses for safety.

In addition to regular fishing clothing, the following items are specially recommended:
Jacket or fleece for cool mornings, evenings and overcast days.
   Rain gear
   Fishing Hat
   Polarized sunglasses
   Long sleeve fishing shirt
Comfortable lodge wear (we are very informal)
   Night wear
   Extra boot socks
   Long underwear or fleece pants

Personal Items
   Bug repellent
   Sun block
   Liquor
   Camera and film
   Toiletries
