We are justifiably proud of our outstanding staff of professional fishing guides. Each was selected not only for his fishing knowledge, but also for his ability to evaluate you and adapt to your experience level. At the beginning of your visit, Erin Starks, our Director of Fishing, will assign a guide to work with you during your visit. Never will you fish with more than one other angler allowing your guide to maximize your experience.
Your guide will meet you after breakfast in the fishing room and discuss your fishing desires for the day. To get the most out of your stay, tell him what kind of fishing you would like to do. Do you need help with casting, nymphing, dry fly presentation? Are you looking for advice on buying a new rod or waders? Your guide will be more than happy to assist you.
New guides are being hired in February to fill open positions. Interested candidates, please see our employment opportunities page for full details.
Erin Starks, Director of Fishing (Keenesburg, CO) 10 years experience guiding - 10 years at Elktrout
I enjoy sharing Elktrout's exceptional water with our guests and meeting new people. I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to show others the qualities that make this a truly special place.
Dan Cone (Llano, Texas)

The most important thing for me to do as a guide is to make sure that our guests enjoy their time on the water. That often means that I am one part instructor, one part valet, and always keeping my eyes open for rising fish.
Jason Jagger (Steamboat Springs, Colorado)

I enjoy in assisting clients improving their fly fishing skills. One of my "highlights" of a guided trip is helping a client persuade a fish to "eat" a royal wulff!
Paul Reese (Kremmling, Colorado)

I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and developing new friendships. I've gained a sense of accomplishment seeing beginners develop the skills to be successful as fishermen returning to Elktrout with a love of the sport. Finally, as a guide I get to spend my days in the outdoors enjoying nature and the beauty of Colorado.
Bill Cassel (Kremmling, Colorado)

As a guide, I enjoy meeting people from all parts of the world with varied backgrounds and experiences. I have been a lifelong educator and coach so teaching something that is a personal passion, like flyfishing, is great.

Jean Williams (Flagstaff, Arizona)

It takes a special person to guide. You have to love sharing the beauty of the outdoors, enjoy a wide variety of great people and gain as much pleasure in watching someone else's skills build to earn and catch that magnificent trout. Besides, I love being in the best open space in the world.
